The House
Thomas
Luny House is an elegant Georgian house reflecting Teignmouth’s
heyday, when it was a very fashionable town favoured by several
of Nelson’s admirals and captains. The house is set back from
Teign Street with an entrance into a walled courtyard at the front,
through an archway.
The house has a warm and friendly
atmosphere, encouraging guests to relax and feel at home. On arrival,
tea and coffee or afternoon tea with home-made cake is offered,
which may be taken either in your bedroom, the drawing room or
in the summer, in the garden.
The spacious drawing room, which stretches
from the front of the house to the back, is charmingly furnished
with antiques and comfortable sofas and chairs. The room can be
divided into two smaller cosy rooms in winter by the original
large panelled doors, with each room having an open fire. French
windows open out into the rear walled garden.
The house, although it is near the
centre of the town and not far from the fish quay, is a haven
of tranquility. To the front, the courtyard, with ample and secure
car parking is surrounded by high Devon sandstone walls and colourful
beds of herbaceous plants and flowers. The archway leading into
it is fairly narrow, so please take care!
On
the south side of the house is a secluded and completely private
walled garden. Both the dining room and drawing room give out
onto the garden, where over the summer months the guests may enjoy
afternoon tea.
